Here are a couple natural approaches to difficulties with sleeping.

Racing thoughts often keep us awake during the night.  It’s like our minds have no competition when it is time to sleep and off to the races our thoughts go.

Having a place to redirect your thoughts helps manage the racing thoughts.  Find a short sentence to say to yourself lovingly and gently when the thoughts kick in.  Sentences such as “shh not now”, “no more talking” or “I’m at rest”, etc.  Repeat the sentence quietly in your mind keeping relaxed as you do; gently, lovingly, slowly.

Certain essential oils work well to help with sleep as well.  Howood essential oil is a great sleep aid.  It has a good sedating effect.  When my thoughts are racing, I apply a blend with Howood.  I can feel my thoughts slow right down.  Howood also helps pain with its is analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties.

Here is a recipe from Andrea Butje of Aromahead Institute:

8 drops of German Chamomile

3 drops Lavender

3 drops Helichrysum

4 drops Juniper Berry

6 drops Howood

2 oz cold pressed castor oil or olive oil.

Apply a nickel size amount to the bottom of your feet and night night!
